My year in KPop

The inaugural Ahjumma Top ?? for 2012

These are MY favourite songs for 2012, they are in NO particular order and because I am relatively new to KPop some of these songs are not from this year, but are ones that other people pointed out or I stumbled on them, so these songs were ALL new to me and that’s what counts.

All of SuperShow 4 from Super Junior live in Tokyo
Highlight of which was Shindong dressed as Maria from The Sound Of Music, with Siwon as the Captain and the rest of SuJu as the Von Trapp children. Also the fact that they actually let Henry and Zhou Mi SING and do the ending with them, ELFs need to treat Henry and Zhou Mi better.

NU’EST – FACE

In honour of my gorgeous gorgeous boys being in Australia atm, I give you my current favourite song of the moment.

Guardian Angel- Masquerade

This was, hands down my favourite song from 1984 and quite possibly from the 80’s. Masquerade was the performing name of Drafi Deutscher, he sang BOTH voices in the song, I have no idea who the two people in the MV are, but they are just miming it, apparently it was common practice on Dutch tv to have others perform your songs.

Super Junior- A Cha

I blame my daughter for this, I am now listening to Super Junior and enjoying it.

I don’t feel quite so bad about squeeing over SuJu, the eldest member is almost 30, that I can handle 😎

Exo-M Mama

While I was in hospital, I happened on a lovely program on SBS on sunday mornings called PopAsia, showcasing the best of Asian pop, my eldest has been in to JPop and now KPop for years, her favourite is SuperJunior.

I am a late convert, and Exo-M are my favourites, it’s a little bit scandalous a woman my age squeeing over a band of young good looking boys, but really, they are ALL so cute and yummy, and the music is pretty good too.

This is my fave Exo-M track, I prefer Exo-M over Exo-K as I think M have the slightly stronger singers, but all my Exo boys are very cute.

ANZAC DAY 2012

In honour of ANZAC day

Eric Bogle: And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

Now when I was a young man I carried me pack
And I lived the free life of the rover.
From the Murray’s green basin to the dusty outback,
Well, I waltzed my Matilda all over.
Then in 1915, my country said, “Son,
It’s time you stop ramblin’, there’s work to be done.”
So they gave me a tin hat, and they gave me a gun,
And they marched me away to the war.

And the band played “Waltzing Matilda,”
As the ship pulled away from the quay,
And amidst all the cheers, the flag waving, and tears,
We sailed off for Gallipoli.
And how well I remember that terrible day,
How our blood stained the sand and the water;
And of how in that hell that they call Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter.
Johnny Turk, he was waitin’, he primed himself well;
He showered us with bullets, and he rained us with shell —
And in five minutes flat, he’d blown us all to hell,
Nearly blew us right back to Australia.
But the band played “Waltzing Matilda,”
When we stopped to bury our slain,
Well, we buried ours, and the Turks buried theirs,
Then we started all over again.
And those that were left, well, we tried to survive
In that mad world of blood, death and fire.
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
Though around me the corpses piled higher.
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head,
And when I woke up in me hospital bed
And saw what it had done, well, I wished I was dead —
Never knew there was worse things than dying.
For I’ll go no more “Waltzing Matilda,”
All around the green bush far and free —
To hump tents and pegs, a man needs both legs,
No more “Waltzing Matilda” for me.
So they gathered the crippled, the wounded, the maimed,
And they shipped us back home to Australia.
The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane,
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla.
And as our ship sailed into Circular Quay,
I looked at the place where me legs used to be,
And thanked Christ there was nobody waiting for me,
To grieve, to mourn and to pity.
But the band played “Waltzing Matilda,”
As they carried us down the gangway,
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared,
Then they turned all their faces away.
And so now every April, I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me.
And I see my old comrades, how proudly they march,
Reviving old dreams of past glory,
And the old men march slowly, all bones stiff and sore,
They’re tired old heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask “What are they marching for?”
And I ask meself the same question.
But the band plays “Waltzing Matilda,”
And the old men still answer the call,
But as year follows year, more old men disappear
Someday, no one will march there at all.
Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda.
Who’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?
And their ghosts may be heard as they march by the billabong,
Who’ll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me?

Holly Holy – Neil Diamond

This is the awesome Neil Diamond singing his classic Holly Holy live at the BBC, for me the definitive version is the one off the best selling live concert album of all time, Hot August Night, but I couldn’t find a video of that, but this version is almost as awesome.

Holly holy eyes
Dream of only you
Where I am, what I am
What I believe in
Holly holy
Holly holy dream
Wanting only you
And she comes
And I run just like the wind will
Holly holy

Sing a song
Sing a song of songs
Sing it out
Sing it strong

Call the sun in the dead of the night
And the sun’s gonna rise in the sky
Touch a man who can’t walk upright
And that lame man, he’s gonna fly
And I fly
And I fly

Holly holy love
Take the lonely child
And the seed
Let it be filled with tomorrow
Holly holy

Sing a song
Sing a song of songs
Sing it out
Sing it strong

Call the sun in the dead of the night
And the sun’s gonna rise in the sky
Touch a man who can’t walk upright
And that lame man, he’s gonna fly
And I fly, yeah
And I fly

Holly holy dream
Dream of only you
Holly holy love
